Immediate Relief

The Family India

The devastation that faced our team of Family India volunteers when we traveled to Tamil Nadu after the South Asian Tsunami was overwhelming!

The first task that lay before us was to provide food and essential household items to those who had lost everything they owned. They needed to eat! Our teams responded to this immediate need by distributing relief supplies in the form of “Family Relief Packs” to the victims. These packs included rice, dal, milk, biscuits, sugar, cooking pans, jugs, and mats.

We distributed over 6,000 Family Relief Packs to affected families in 10 villages: Thalanguda, Malumiarpettai, Sothikuppam, Old Town Cuddalore, Mathinapalli, and Sangolikupam in Cuddalore District; and Muthaliarkuppam, Bomaiapallayam, Nallavadu, and Thanthiyarayankuppam in Villupuram District.

We distributed relief supplies not just to the villages along the sea coast, but also to the river fishermen who were affected by the tsunami.
