The Family International Nigeria

Christmas at an Orphanage
During Christmas 2007, we participated in a Christmas program for an orphanage in Enugu State. The venue, food, and drinks we’re all donated by sponsors.
Zaria update – Completion of VVF building and renovation of old VVF ward
The VVF Vocational Training Center and Recovery Ward that we began building in October 2006 is now completed and up and running. Two of our volunteers spent a week in Zaria, where we completed the final touches on the building itself, as well as on the adjacent kitchen and bathroom.
Medical Projects Move Forward
Two ongoing medical projects sponsored by Family Care Nigeria have made significant advances in recent months. The doctor’s residence behind the Family Care Ikota Clinic is now finished.
Family Care Ikota Clinic and Pharmacy
The Family Care Ikota Clinic and Pharmacy has been in operation for over five months now and is filling an important need for the community. Even though we are still in the initial stages, the clinic is expanding its services and is growing busier by the day.
Cereal Banking
We recently got involved with a “cereal bank” village program, which was the initiative of another local NGO. Cereal banking helps alleviate the serious food shortage in the months before harvest, caused by poor budgeting of food resources.

Personal Testimony from Suwaida
My name is Suwaida Abubukar. I come from a small village called Jardarji, very close to Daura in Katsina state, Nigeria. Female education was not emphasized when I was growing up, so I got very little or no education. When I was 16 years of age, I got married to a man almost twice my age.
Christmas/year-end party for orphanages and the disabled
In conjunction with our Family Care office in Port Harcourt, which has a performance group for children, we organized a special Christmas party at the Enugu Cheshire Home for teenagers with polio. We also invited the three orphanages we work with in the region to attend.
VVF Patient Support
Vesico-Vagina Fistula (VVF) is a terribly dehumanizing condition caused by an obstructed labor. Many women with VVF are from poor backgrounds. Causes include early marriage, negligence, lack of antenatal care during pregnancy, and ignorance.
Ibadan End-of-Year Programmes
In Ibadan we checked on all our programmes and training courses that were running for the year, making sure that all was in order and ready to restart in 2007. We also held Christmas parties for the Ibadan School for the Deaf and a home for underprivileged, handicapped, and street children.
