Educational and Community Support, Enugu and Ufuma, Anambra State

Family Care Newsletter Issue 101
Updated December 2006

In collaboration with volunteers from Family Care's Port Harcourt office, we again donated food, clothing, and other items (which included much needed baby formula for the infants) to our partner orphanages: Guardian Angels Motherless Babies Home, Holy Child Motherless Babies Home, and DDL Orphanage, as well as to the Cheshire Home in Enugu.

Educational and Community Support, Enugu and Ufuma, Anambra State, December 2006 (Update)

The main focus of our visit to Ufuma was to distribute five STEPS Programmes sponsored by a local businessman to some rural schools. While there, we performed benefit shows in two schools and arranged to return with more materials as well as to conduct a motivational teachers' seminar. One of the emphases was to introduce the teachers to the STEPS Programme and present how to best incorporate it into their curriculum.

We accomplished this the following month with 30 teachers from nine primary schools attending our seminar. Another sponsor, with a burden to help these schools, donated more STEPS and went out of his way to assist the teachers in acquiring STEPS and other educational books.

While in Enugu, we were also able to visit the Family Care assisted orphanage, giving out some needed items such as sugar, clothing, and bed covers, and we put on an interactive musical programme for the children, which was very much appreciated.
