Elene helping to set up a healthcare clinic
Family project Family Care Association sponsored construction, equipping, and commencing operations of a model free/subsidized healthcare clinic in Ikota community in Lagos state. We are working toward a plan to replicate this initiative in all six geopolitical zones of the country. The subsidized health clinic in Ikota has permanent medical personnel and adequate facilities to consult and treat the nearby communities. It will also act as a screening centre for those who are in need of tertiary medical attention through surgery.
Donated medicine is given to low-income families and individuals free of charge. However, in the case of lack of availability of donated medication the patients are only required to pay the cost price of the medicine, which will then be rotated to acquire new stock.
As an alternative means of making the clinic sustainable and self-reliant, we are partnering with private companies and corporations in the area who will contract the clinic to handle the medical care and treatment of their employees. The proceeds of this will help pay the salaries of resident medical staff as well as sponsor medical treatment for those on our 'waiting list' in need of sponsored surgery or other treatment.
Here is an outline of what beneficiaries of the subsidized health clinic receive:
- Consultation and treatment
- Subsidized or donated medication
- Infant care and hygiene education
- HIV/AIDS/STD education, counseling and awareness
- Screening for surgery
- Tertiary medical attention through sponsored surgical operations
- Dental treatment
- Ophthalmic care
