During our latest humanitarian aid trip to Ibadan, Oyo State, we distributed 70 bags of rice to several centers and underprivileged families, as well as some very out-of-the-way hostels for cancer patients.
In one hostel run by the Catholic Church, a few hundred aged, homeless, and destitute people from the poorest areas of Ibadan are served a hot meal daily. Our donation of rice was a tremendous help, as the staff finds it hard to purchase enough to feed the growing numbers in their care.
We also made our usual rounds to distribute medicine, food items, and various supplies to centers and hospitals that we assist on an ongoing basis.
Our HIV/AIDS program in Ibadan took one more step forward when we helped another AIDS widow, Bola (she and her child are both HIV positive but otherwise healthy) set up a kiosk in order to earn a living by selling food items, water, soap, etc. A local organization will supervise and assist her in running the kiosk. Bola was extremely grateful, as she had been struggling and was desperate to regain a sense of self-worth and independence.
